It was around here somewhere!
Oh yes, something valuable has been misplaced, lost, trashed. Where did it go? After all, you just saw it a moment ago, held it right in your hands, and then you put it…somewhere.
Have you ever spent long minutes, no, hours! looking for – keys, eyeglasses, an overdue library book? Are you the unlucky driver – under a cop’s baleful stare – who can’t find your registration in the glove box? The teacher who misplaced her classroom key? A college student who lost her ID?
Or maybe you’re an alternate life-form, looking for the instruction manual to wing your ship home. It could be, could happen, that you are standing on the border between US and Mexico, or Canada even – without your passport.
It was around here somewhere!
Give us 150 words about that funny, frivolous or maddening moment when your very special, much needed thing went missing…and you might win a prize: A copy of my book: Write it Rich! Tips for Reluctant Writers or a free, 1:1 writing chat with me. Your choice.
And don’t forget to tune in every Monday for Susan Rich Talks…Living the Writing Life and again on Thursdays for Susan Rich Talks…Writing Craft: 8 am PT, 11 am ET on w4wn.com. Missed a show? Check out the archives!

Oh, that first kiss!
That steamy, sensuous, lip clinging pucker between the romantic leads in your novel…what can be more thrilling to the reader? And more challenging for you to write? So that’s what this week’s Flash Fiction prompt is all about:
Oh! That first kiss. Is she a damsel in distress, standing on the moors in some period fantasy? Or a modern day woman torn between two lovers? Or maybe yours is a tale of spunky woman meeting hated man and, well you know — they kiss.
Give us 150 words about that breathless moment that romance readers thrill for…and you might win a prize: A copy of my book: Write it Rich!

It’s the mantra of every seasoned writer and editor:
Write first, edit later.

Nothing new to the working writer or exhausted author, but we like how Cynthia Ellingsen explains it:
“Writing is a skeleton, then you accessorize with Gucci. First you have to have the bare bones, so put down something. You might have to wiggle the words around a little bit – but beware. Danger comes when you’re first starting out to edit right away. Get it down first, then go back later.”
Cynthia is a featured guest on Susan Rich Talks…Living the Writing Life. Her next guest appearance is 8 am PT, 11 am ET on April 23. She’ll be sharing more advice on the writing craft.

For the first time, the produce aisle was completely out of cabbage

StockImages/FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Why was that? Was it post-war Russia when food was scarce? Was there a run on cabbage during the St Pat’s Day corned beef and cabbage cook-off?
Or maybe cabbage has suddenly become the next fuel supply. Hmmmm. Gives gas a whole new meaning, now, doesn’t it?
Whatever the reason, there you have it:
For the first time,

What was the suitcase for, exactly?

Nuttakit/Freedigitalphotos.net
A violin, or a machine gun? Did it hold a gluten-free PBJ sandwich or the remains of Mrs. Finney’s ex-husband? Maybe it was loaded with paperwork and a change of underwear for Joni’s bar exam (Joni was surprised to learn you can buy velvet thong-backs at a vending machine on Hollywood Boulevard.)
Maybe – just maybe – the suitcase held the secret to the meaning of life (Monty Python might need it back if so).
Suitcase, abandoned. Or not. It was canvas. No, leather. Bound with duct-tape. Or be-ribboned so Samantha could snag it off the carousel at London’s Heathrow. Whatever it was, we just need you to tell us:
