FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Walk About Magazine Strides into Seattle Market

PORTLAND, Ore. (March 20, 2005) – Walk About, the Northwest’s first magazine dedicated to
the walking lifestyle, is now available in the Seattle-metro area.

Created in the bedroom office of Pam Granata, Walk About was launched in 2003 with a home
equity line of credit. The Portland, Ore.-based publisher built a 40,000 circulation base in just
one year.

Although Walk About has a Northwest flavor, the magazine has generated a solid national and
international following. Walkers in 20 states and Canada subscribe to the bi-monthly glossy.

This kind of response demonstrates the magazine’s broad appeal. “Our readers say we’re on
the right track,” Granata says. “They want a publication geared toward the walking public.”

Designed to educate and motivate walkers of all ages and fitness levels, Walk About offers
medically sound advice from podiatrists, nutritionists and personal trainers. Articles focus on
current health concerns, like obesity, and how to incorporate walking into daily life. For more
advanced athletes, articles cover topics like exercise addiction, gear reviews and alternatives to
traditional walking, like speed walking, snowshoeing and Nordic walking.

Granata, 52, understands the age group she is trying to reach. “I’m getting older, and I know
how hard it is to lose weight after 40. People like me are looking for something to do other than
jogging, that’s fun, aerobically challenging, and low impact. Walking is a great sport, because
anyone can do it, regardless of their fitness level.”

In the Seattle-area, Walk About is available at major fitness retailers, athletic clubs and libraries.
A list of Seattle-area locations follows, as does a fact sheet.
