    Magic Gloves
On the day I picked up Magic’s ashes, I couldn’t find my gloves, my grandma’s gloves: Supple leather still creased in the shape of her palm. I looked everywhere, desperate to slip my hands into the cashmere cradle, longing to hold her hand.
Now they were lost to me; I left the house cold.
Returned cradling a box that would hold a gift mug: My Magic, reduced.
When the phone rang, I knew. My hands on Magic’s ashes timed my grandma’s passage. She’d wanted to hold my hand, too.
This time, her gloves were were right where I needed them.

Our first family dog, Scooter found us at the SPCA. We had looked through all the cages, looking for her. We didn’t see any older labs, as was our preference. Dismayed; we started to leave and I said “I guess there are no labs here now.” Our oldest daughter said, ‘Mom, there IS a lab, she was back in the outside cage!” As we turned back toward the outside cage, we saw this beautiful black lab was attempting to crawl under the fence towards us; as if to say; “Wait for me, I am here!” She recognized us; her family.

What a great, happy story. I’ve rescued all my dogs in shelters. Sad places with happy endings. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Rocking my young daughter to sleep, her fever had finally subsided. I gently placed her down in her crib. Getting some rest myself, I turned on my television. Scruffy, our Ihaso Apso, sat by the sofa alongside me. Suddenly, Scruffy bolted and started barking at my daughter’s room. I quickly ran to see what was wrong and as I saw my daughter was in convulsions, I ran to her, picked her up and darted out to the doctor’s office. Thankfully, for Scruffy, she was going to be okay and Scruffy got a nice juicy treat from me!
